Innovators of off-road equipment, Rhino-Rack, feels a great responsibility to care for the land that we have been fortunate enough to explore, and the people that are part of it. Through implementing sustainable practices and developing products with reduced packaging, Rhino-Rack resolves to enter a new era with a focus on the minimisation of their environmental impact and protection of the planet along with its inhabitants.
You only have to look as far as our namesake, the great Rhinoceros, to understand that we strive to be determined, resourceful, inquisitive, and protective - all attributes that align with Rhino-Rack’s mission and values. A couple of our most loved products are already taking the lead in minimising the environmental impact. Read on to find out why and how the team is striving towards a heightened corporate social responsibility where the people are benefitting and the environment is preserved.
Rhino-Rack creates products that encourage and help people explore the great outdoors, and for that experience to be enjoyable, it is imperative that the natural landscape retains its unfiltered beauty. Rhino-Rack has and will continue to take the initiative to implement practices that centre around the conversation of the planet, innovation of products, and the cultivation of people.
Our comprehensive Sustainability Strategy over the next 8 months to benchmark Rhino-Rack’s future goals and outcomes includes, but is not limited to, extending product life spans by 10% and achieving a recycling rate of 90%.
A couple of our most loved products are already taking the lead in minimising the environmental impact. Our Pioneer Platform and Backbone system are no longer dressed up in any plastic or foam packaging and instead protected with recyclable cardboard. With thousands of these products sold each year this is a considerable amount of packaging waste that is avoiding landfill. In 2020, we saved an average of 28,027 kilograms of styrofoam (EPS) from going into landfill.
Currently in progress is the reduction of foam and cardboard inside the packaging of our Pioneer Tradie and Pioneer Tray. The carton dims will also be reduced to make it more compact. This change is estimated to be implemented by October 2021 and will save approximately 13,800 kilograms of cardboard and 6,715 kilograms of styrofoam (EPS) from going into landfill each year.
Although we have started implementing product development processes to reduce output packaging, we are aware that the aspiration to be sustainable is a continuous and ongoing process.
With the incorporation of current and future sustainable approaches towards business practices, Rhino-Rack’s commitment to helping the environment is paramount to ensuring that future generations can enjoy the incredible outdoors.
