Sarah has always had a love for the outdoors and says that being able to provide the same experiences to her son Axel has been invaluable. Working at TRED Outdoors has led to this interest now being a large part of her everyday lifestyle and outside of work, always planning their next adventure.

How do you Make Space For Adventure while being a mum? What changes have you made to your activities after becoming a mum?

Parenthood involves incorporating parenting into outdoor activities, adapting them to be child-friendly yet still enjoyable for adults. Whether it be a fun game or nature walks on camping trips, there are always lessons to be learnt and life experiences to be had. Since becoming a mum, my appreciation for adventures has grown and I really cherish every opportunity to get out there and make memories with my son.

Tell us about an adventure you’ve taken your kids on.

Regular camping and caravanning trips are our favourite as a family, especially for my toddler Axel. He loves joining us kayaking down the river. Watching his excitement while he takes in all the sights and sounds is truly heartwarming.

Why is continuing to be adventurous with your kids important to you?

Sharing new experiences together strengthens our bond as a family and encourages Axel to step out of his comfort zone. Most importantly, we can create memories together getting out there and doing what we love that will last a lifetime.

What challenges do you face when trying to adventure with kids and how do you overcome or embrace them?

Packing and unpacking can feel like a mission! With Axel still being quite young, we also want to make sure he is safe, being eager to try everything himself. We make sure to plan ahead as much as possible when it comes to packing essentials and making sure all gear is organised to help streamline the process. It’s really a delicate balance of preparation, supervision and encouraging their curiosity.

What essential gear do you carry and how does Rhino-Rack fit into your adventure? Any packing or gear tips for other mums?

We always make sure to pack the necessities including a first aid kit. Our favourite Rhino-Rack gear is the luggage bag and fishing rod carriers. The luggage bag helps provide more space to store all our gear and also helps keep everything organised and dry. The fishing rod holders are great to easily pack and unpack our rods and ensure they’re secure when venturing off road. My top packing tip for mums would be to prioritise organisation and use storage solutions like Rhino-Rack to maximise space and keep essentials within reach.

What message do you want to share with mums this Mother's Day?

It’s ok to step out of your routine and comfort zones, embrace the imperfections and unpredictability that comes with adventuring with kids. It’s all about making memories that last forever.
